Why End-Grain?

A better surface,
by nature.

End-grain construction lets a knife pass between the wood fibers rather than cutting across them. The result is a resilient work surface that is kinder to fine edges and designed for decades of daily use.

  • 02Highly durable

ABOUT THE STUDIO

It began with
200-year-old walnut.

Many years of creating memorable meals for family and friends inspired my search for exceptional chef tools. Great cooks rely on great tools, and a beautiful, high-quality cutting board is one of the most essential.

My woodworking journey began in the mountains of California with a remarkable slab of 200-year-old American black walnut. My father, an accomplished woodworker, had been saving the wood for something special and graciously allowed me to use it for my first end-grain cutting board.

The result was more than a cutting board. It was a reminder that exceptional wood, patience, and craftsmanship can create something meant to last for generations.

Many boards later, Studio Boxeur Bois was born. Today, every piece is still built with the same respect for wood, craftsmanship, and the joy of gathering around great food and people.

MEET THE “BOIS”

The Inspiration
Behind the Name

Why "Boxeur Bois"? Studio Boxeur Bois (French) translates to "Boxer Wood Studio." The name reflects two passions: Boxers and woodworking. Throughout my life, I have shared my home with three boxer dogs—Jake, George, and Rudy. The boxer is sturdy, playful, graceful, and beautifully formed; qualities I strive to bring to every piece I create. The name has a second meaning. When pronounced in English, Boxeur Bois sounds like "Boxer Boys." It's a tribute to the boxer boys who inspired the workshop and continue to influence its spirit. Meet the boys:

01

Jake

Jake, a brindle boxer, relaxing in the grass

The original. Loyal, expressive, and endlessly curious. Jake introduced me to the unique personality that makes boxer owners lifelong boxer enthusiasts.

02

George

George, a fawn boxer, sitting in front of a brick wall

Strong, majestic, and always watching. George embodied the confidence and noble posture that inspired many aspects of the Studio Boxeur Bois aesthetic.

03

Rudy

Rudy as a boxer puppy resting his head on the floor

The current shop supervisor. Equal parts athlete, comedian, and quality control inspector. If there's sawdust on the floor, Rudy is probably nearby.

Like the boxer dogs who inspired the studio, every piece strives to be strong, beautiful, dependable, playful in spirit, and built to last.
